EM Mudballs

EM Mudballs are made of dried mud into which EM™ Bokashi and Activated EM•1® have been kneaded. They are used to clean up bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and oceans where there are concentrated deposits of sludge and slime.

How to make EM™ Mudballs

Basic Materials:

  • Dirt. It is usually best to use clay-like dirt that can easily be formed into balls.
  • Activated EM•1® (AEM).
  • Molasses (At 10% the volume of the Activated EM•1®. For example, use 7 Tbs of molasses for 1 liter/quart of Activated EM•1®.)
  • EM Bokashi.
  • EM·X® Ceramics Powder. (In Japan, EM Super Cera® Ferment C or Terra C is used.)

How to use EM Mudballs

  • Use EM Mudballs in river bottoms and mud flats where slime has accumulated. Use one EMMudball for each square meter of surface area.
  • Use EM Mudballs once each season until results are seen.
  • Cleaning up oceans, rivers, lakes and ponds requires the application of EM into the water through a variety of methods. It is recommended that Activated EM•1® also be regularly applied into the water to supplement the use of EM Mudballs.

Ratio of materials

  • When using dirt only: 10 parts dirt + Activated EM•1® (AEM) + EM·X® Ceramics Powder (optional).
  • When using dirt and EM Bokashi: 8 parts dirt to 2-4 parts EM Bokashi + Activated EM•1® (AEM) + EM·X®  Ceramics Powder (optional).
  • 8 parts dirt to 1-3 parts EMBokashi + Special EM Bokashi for EM Mudballs + Activated EM•1® (AEM) + EM·X® Ceramics Powder (optional).
  • When using dirt and mud from mud flats: 5 parts dirt to 5 parts mud flat mud + Activated EM•1® (AEM) + EM·X® Ceramics Powder (optional).
  • When using dirt and mud from mud flats and EM Bokashi: 9 parts dirt to 9 parts mud from mud flats + 1 part EM Bokashi + Activated EM•1® (AEM) + EM·X® Ceramics Powder (optional).
Note:
  • Since the water content of the dirt and mud used will vary, the amount of Activated EM•1® (AEM) will vary as well. As a general rule, though, if for instance you produce 3.5 – 4 gallons of material you will need approximately 1 liter/quart of Activated EM•1® (AEM). Always be sure to have enough Activated EM•1® (AEM) on hand in case it is needed. If you use it up, you can add extra water instead (don’t be afraid to use a lot of Activated EM•1®).
  • The amount of optional EM·X® Ceramics Powder will be between 0.5-1.0% of the total amount. For example, for 2.5 gallons of material this will equal 3.5 – 7 Tbs of EM·X® Ceramics Powder.

Treating Water & the Environment with EM

Composting

A Simple Recycling System of Kitchen Waste using EM®

Prepare the air-tight bucket
with drain-cock.

Place the kitchen organic wastes
mixed with EM® ricebran bokashi and EM® solution in the bucket.
When fermented, it smells like pickles

During fermentation, excess water is drained from the bottom. This liquid include lots of nutrients and beneficial microbes that can be used as liquid fertilizer, and cleaning purposes.

Goat farm

Cleaning @ 1:50 dilution (20ml to 1-litre water)
1.    Spray the goat pen with EMAS every morning (before 10am) or evening (after 5pm), for the first 30days
2.    Since goats are housed on the upper deck, spray wet the upper deck first, then the ground floor where the wastes drops
3.    On the 2nd month, spray every other day
4.    By the 3rd month, spraying every 2-3days is sufficient
5.    If foul odour persists, repeat step 1 until odour is controlled

Note:
A.    Highly recommended to use 400ml EMAS diluted with 20-litres water for every 1,000sq.ft
B.    Animal wastes produce Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) and Ammonia (NH3), which
i.      can cause stress to animals, workers; and
ii.     attract flies.

Feeding:
1.    Drink – (use EM-1®)
a)    introduce EM-1® in the drink with 1:1,000 ratio (1ml EM-1® to every 1-litre water) for 3 consecutive days of each week.
b)    add salt to drink as this acts as natural anti-biotic and trace minerals which can help improve animal health, and simultaneously, removes odour from the drink
c)    change water every day
2.    Feed – (EMAS @ 1:1,000 dilution)
a)    after chopping, spray wet the grass/napier with EMAS at 1:1,000 dilution
b)    cover with canvas about 4-5hours
c)    when feeding, pour water over the grass/napier
3.    Where available, add between 1% - 5% EM® Ricebran Bokashi in feed (500gm to 2,500gm for every 50kg bag of feed) on days when EM-1® is not included in drink

Note:
Introducing EM® in the food and drink can
(a)  help cleanse the digestive system;
(b)  help the body better absorb nutrients; and
(c)  increase immune system.

Ø  A well-managed & clean farm can help develop good neighbour relations, and healthy animals
Ø  By including EM® in their feed, it can help improve Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)

Closed-house Chicken Barn

Cleaning @ 1:50 dilution (20ml to 1-litre water)
1.    Clean the chicken barn thoroughly with EMAS,
this way, water drained out of the barn is treated and will not attract flies and pathogens;
2.    Let dry about 2days;
3.    Spread wood shaving on floor, and mist the barn with EMAS;
4.    Chicks should be ready to be brought in the next day;
5.    On the 5th ,10th , and 15th day, turn the wood shaving over after morning feed, and immediately spray the barn (spraying in the afternoon can increase heat in the barn);
6.    After 15th day, turning wood shaving and spraying with EMAS must be done every 2days to maintain ammonia at low level to help maintain health; that is, day 17th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, until harvesting of chickens.

Note:
A.    Highly recommended to use 400ml EMAS diluted with 20-litres water for every 3,000sq.ft
B.    High levels of ammonia can
i.      burn the feet & chest, and blind the chickens;
ii.     cause breathing problems to the workers when feeding the chickens;
iii.    cause for attracting flies; and
iv.   cause for pathogens in the barn which can kill the chickens.

Feeding:
1.    Introduce EM-1® in the drink with 1:3,000 ratio (1ml EM-1® to 3-litre water) for 3 consecutive days during the first 2weeks; that is, day 3,4,5 and 10,11,12;
2.    Increase to 1:1,000 by the 3rd week (1ml EM-1® to 1-litre water) on day 17,18,19 – 24,25,26 – 30,31,32, until harvest;
3.    Where available, add between 1% - 5% EM® Ricebran Bokashi in feed (500gm to 2,500gm for every 50kg bag of feed) on days when EM-1® is not included in drink.

Note:
Introducing EM® in the food and drink can help
i.      cleanse the digestive system;
ii.     the body absorb nutrients; and
iii.    increase immune system for health of chicken.

Ø  A well-managed & clean farm can help develop good neighbour relations, and healthy animals
Ø  By including EM® in their feed can help improve Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), which means chickens can attain an average weight of 2kg around 33-34days instead of 36days.
